The SONARANGE DUAL ultrasonic proximity/ranging sensor is a low cost solution to non-contact proximity sensing applications. As a proximity sensor it gives a much greater sensing range than is possible with inductive or magnetic sensors. Ultrasonic technology also provides for sensing non-metallic targets such as wood, cardboard, glass, minerals, and plastics. The 90degree sensing head allows mounting in applications requiring limited space.

The SONARANGE DUAL ultrasonic sensor can offer very high resolution in close proximity ranging applications. Using a full 10 bit resolution (A version) over a 1.5" range would offer a theoretical 0.0015" increment. In practice, consideration needs to be given to thermal effects which often frustrate such attempts at this level of precision. The B version can offer an approximate 0.01" level of resolution.
